Litter C

10 puppies (8 girls and 2 boys) were born on 16th August 2026. 

The "C" litter of Signifer is the second and final litter of our C.I.B. C.I.E. MCh. GrandCh. Bubbell's All Eyes On Me NW. Knowing that Bubba would not have another litter made the choice of sire even more important to me. I did not want simply a beautiful dog with a good pedigree. I wanted a dog I would still look back on years later and know exactly why I had chosen him.

In the end, I went quite far back – to a dog I have admired almost from the moment I truly started following Flat Coated Retrievers.

C.I.E. MCh. ClubCh. NV KV Susedalens Remington Sendero, known as Levis, was born in 2013, at a time when I still considered myself a Golden Retriever breeder and had no idea how important Flat Coated Retrievers would one day become in my life.

Over the years that followed, I saw hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Flatcoats. Many beautiful, successful and well-known dogs. Yet only very few have stood the test of time in my own eyes for more than a decade.

Levis is one of them.

To me, he represents exactly the type of Flatcoats I love. And perhaps that is what matters most about this combination – I did not choose a dog who happened to impress me now. I chose a dog who has continued to fascinate me for more than ten years, despite all the other Flatcoats I have seen in the meantime.

I have always had a particular soft spot for his sire as well, Sh Ch Steelriver Blazin Hot at Blacktoft, so when I started searching for the sire of Bubba's second litter, I kept returning to this part of the pedigree. I considered other dogs, other lines and other possibilities, but Levis kept coming back to mind.

With dogs from previous generations, thoughts like these usually remain nothing more than a breeder's "what if". Frozen semen from most of them is simply no available. In Levis's case, however, it was and it meant that a combination I had dreamed about for years was suddenly possible.

Levis is no longer with us, which makes the opportunity to use one of the last available frozen semen doses feel like a privilege. This combination would never have been possible without Lenka Smutna from Black Brianta kennel, and I will always be deeply grateful for her trust.

For me, the "C" litter is therefore a little more than just another generation of Signifer. It is a connection between Bubba and a piece of the breed's history that I admired long before I ever imagined I might one day have the chance to bring it into my own breeding programme.

Now all that remains is to watch what grows out of this combination. I hope that one day, in at least one of our little "C" puppies, I will recognise a small piece of the dog I kept coming back to in my mind for so many years.
